Build UP Grades 6 and 7

Build UP Your Life Sciences for Grades 6 &7 Program

Workshop description

Each participant will receive an orientation to two use-it-tomorrow projects:
Invertebrate Adaptations (gr. 6) and Food Webs in Ecosystems (gr.7) both of which address grade-specific Life Science PLO’s. During the workshop we will show examples of scaffolding, differentiation, critical thinking & ongoing assessment to make the science project/research process both engaging and manageable for teachers and their students.

Here is Anne Maclean’s Food Web and Adaptations units. They were created for the Build UP program (the second part of the Start UP! Program- which provide more grade/topic specific units later in the year).
I think they are a great place to begin building a unit.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE (GR. 9)

“I have recently finished a unit on matter with my grade 9 class. They are a support class so they are slower learners who experience difficulty with written output. So they are following the provincial curriculum but i’ve added adaptations in insturction and assessment as needed. The text is from the provincial bc science 9 textbook but i’ve simplified language and concepts as needed. It worked pretty well with my group who were very keen. I’ve put together a set of readings and worksheets for this unit…”- Haneef
